Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day I wanted to take this day in which we honor Martin Luther King Jr. and his legacy in Civil Rights to invite you to LIKE the National Civil Rights Museum (located here in Memphis) on facebook.

I STRONGLY encourage you to visit the National Civil Rights Museum! I have been and took a dear friend who was visiting me to the museum. It is really an amazing journey to walk through and very moving.

It is free to TN residents with valid i.d. on Monday afternoons from 3:00 p.m. -6 p.m. (but not on Mondays in which there is a holiday!)

Merry Christmas

There will be no coupons in the paper today 12/25, I am sure you could probably find deals on-line but don't, spend this day with those that you love. I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas. It has been such a privilege getting to know so many of you this year and helping in even a tiny way to help you to be a good steward of you spending and be able to save. I know so many of you have been struggling this year and yet many of you still have captured the spirit of Christmas, giving to others.

Here are two Memphis Mommy reader story I want to share and I know there are many others, first is an e-mail response to winning a Fred's gift card from me and I will not share the name.

"Just wanted to share with you that yesterday I received the $25 Fred's gift card that I won. I had originally planned to use those towards Toys for Tots but since I didn't receive them until yesterday, last week my husband and I decided that we would use our car payment for this month on Toys for Tots and just pay a late fee later. So we spent $300 on Toys for Tots this Christmas from Fred's, Target, and Walmart. We managed to scoop up an additional $250 (from change laying around the house to asking friends and family to donate their change and/or bills) to donate to the Midsouth Food Bank. I wanted to share with you that when I received the $25 Fred's gift card that I donated that to the Midsouth Food Bank as well.

Thank you for everything you did this Christmas to help us do this. This has made us both feel extremely happy to be able to help others. As much as a struggle it will be financially on us because my husband was laid off last October, it was very much worth it. Knowing that others will be fed and children will have something to open on Christmas morning is the best feeling in the world. I will be doing this throughout the year. That is my New Years Resolution."

HAPPY FLAG DAY

I did look around for some Flag Day Freebies or discounts but did not find any ;0( Let me know if you know of any!

I love the flag! LOVE IT! I decorated my table this weekend to reflect our love of flag and country and will keep it this way until mid July at least ;0) I got most of this stuff 75% to 90% off each year I buy a few more things after Fourth of July! I have crafts for the kids to do today and on the 4th that I got at a great 90% off at Michael's last year. So scout out the stores, and WAIT for the sales ;0)

History of Flag Day:
The Fourth of July was traditionally celebrated as America's birthday, but the idea of an annual day specifically celebrating the Flag is believed to have first originated in 1885. BJ Cigrand, a schoolteacher, arranged for the pupils in the Fredonia, Wisconsin Public School, District 6, to observe June 14 (the 108th anniversary of the official adoption of The Stars and Stripes) as 'Flag Birthday'. In numerous magazines and newspaper articles and public addresses over the following years, Cigrand continued to enthusiastically advocate the observance of June 14 as 'Flag Birthday', or 'Flag Day'.

On June 14, 1889, George Balch, a kindergarten teacher in New York City, planned appropriate ceremonies for the children of his school, and his idea of observing Flag Day was later adopted by the State Board of Education of New York. On June 14, 1891, the Betsy Ross House in Philadelphia held a Flag Day celebration, and on June 14 of the following year, the New York Society of the Sons of the Revolution, celebrated Flag Day.

Inspired by three decades of state and local celebrations, Flag Day - the anniversary of the Flag Resolution of 1777 - was officially established by the Proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson on May 30th, 1916. While Flag Day was celebrated in various communities for years after Wilson's proclamation, it was not until August 3rd, 1949, that President Truman signed an Act of Congress designating June 14th of each year as National Flag Day.

Blogging With A Baby

Just in case you missed it, our household has been enlarged by 2 feet ;0). Tabitha and I came home from the hospital on Saturday and we are doing well! She is a great baby (so far ;0). So amazing to watch her sleep, a new baby is really inspirational, makes me want to be a better person which includes using my time very wisely. I am a part of an awesome network of blogs known as My City Mommy. These women are awesome and have been posting for me these last 5 days and I can continue to rely on them for great deals. I also am ready to slowly jump back in, don't worry BABY is # 1 priority, so please e-mail, leave ?'s in my chat box on my facebook wall and know when I respond I have the time to respond you are not taking time away from my precious bundle when you ask me questions. I have a system, a timer set only an hour a day right now, and when that time is up, I will answer e-mails do postings etc. the next day.

After all we still have items we need, shopping that has to be done, so I am still looking for deals, and the best part is my husband has the week off, our 2 older kids are at the grandparents house so we are in great shape! My sweet husband has agreed to learn couponing and this will be super helpful to all you NEWBIES out there! Every day I will do ONE POST, featuring my husband and his coupon adventures and will cover all the basic topics of Coupons, so follow him step by step and learn from his successes and perhaps a few mistakes, I promised him I won't be too hard on him ;0) I get e-mails daily from newbies who have seen the Extreme Couponing show and they want to save $$ too but have no idea where to start, well stay tuned we are going to show you step by step how to really save!

Welcome Memphis Mommy-Baby Tabitha

Our family is proud to introduce Tabitha Jean Moland. She was born on May 25th @ 7:59 A.M. She weighed 7 lbs 2 oz and is 19 inches long! Everyone is doing well!

SIte was Down-RUnning Well Now!

WOW my way of putting things on My Memphis Mommy, the program blogger went down for over 24 hours and deleted my previous 48 hours of posts!!! I apologize for any inconvenience this caused any of you but there was nothing I could do but put stuff up on my facebook.

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day first to my Mom (though she won't see this as she does not have a computer). She was an avid couponer when I was a child and that impacted how I shop and save today! She and I are very different people she has the talent of Martha Stewart, I on the other hand, not so much ;0) the thing we are most similar on is our desire for making life fun! I had the most fun childhood, the most mundane of things turned into an adventure because of her imagination, I try to do the same for my kids.

So Happy Mother's Day to all, celebrate your mom and and mom figures in your life and celebrate those who have given you the privilege of being called Mom.

I love you Ruthanne, Sophia, and my Tabitha (who is kicking me as I write this, so I cannot leave her out).

I also love my furry children, Truffles and Mocha!

Happy Birthday Hubby-Day Off

My dear Husband Mark turned 40 today and I surprised him by picking up his parents from the airport who came in from California! So I am going to be taking the day off from blogging to celebrate with him as he puts up with enough of my constant blogging and deserves a day of me not on the computer!! Happy Easter

Easter is one of the most important days of the year for me and my family. We love worshiping our risen Savior especially on Easter Sunday and focusing on each other and the love He has given us. Today, Sunday 24th will be a "screen free" day for us. I will respond to e-mails etc. on Monday or Tuesday at the latest (depending on how many I have). Taking the Day Off

I try to have one day off a week but I have been doing really terrible at that lately, but today since my sweet husband has just gotten back from being gone for 2 weeks we are spending it together as a family! There are so many things to look at on the site so enjoy! Day of Rest--Saturday

As most of you know I have been trying to take a "no blogging day" once a week and I had chosen Sunday. I have always practiced a day with "no screens Sabbath" but since I have begun blogging I have found this challenging. I think that Sunday becomes a difficult day not to be on the internet as I am searching for my own deals and laying out my shopping plan as the new sales ads are in place. So I am going to try having giveaways and other fun things scheduled in advance to appear for you Saturday, so I can enjoy a day with my family and take time away from the computer screen. Then on Sunday I will bring you the ad match-ups and a few other things. The ads probably will not be up until the afternoon.

This last week has been such a blessed one as one of my dearest friends flew in with her sweet baby boy and we had a wonderful week together. I have more friends arriving this week but I will do my best post more this week! I am still trying to find a place for a coupon workshop and would love to plan it for the first Tuesday in March!
