Summer 2014 - FREE & Cheap Happenings in the Mid-South!

Summer outings can really add up so here's a list of FREE and cheap activities for your family to enjoy in the Mid-South. I will be adding to the list as more information becomes available so keep checking back.

Kids Skate Free: Valid at select skating centers. Register for your local center and then receive emails with your passes. Please keep in mind your first set of passes will not be ready until Sunday of that week.


Kids Bowl Free: kids will get 2 Free Games of Bowling everyday.


Home Depot Kids workshops: free workshops for do-it-yourselfers of all ages and experience levels.

Lowe's Build and Grow Clinics: Free to the public and occur select Saturdays at 10am.

Germantown Groovin' and Grillin' Concert Series: Free concert and $3 hot dog combo or $5 hamburger combo available for purchase.
•June 3 Soul Shockers – R & B party band 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
•June 10 Ghost Town Blues Band - Blues 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
•June 17 Jamie Baker & the VIP’s- classic soul, disco, and pop/rock 6:00 PM - 8:30 PM


Fountains:

Civic Center Plaza: Located right in front of City Hall, the fountains at Civic Center Plaza are almost always on. Each in-ground jet sprays intermittently, providing endless fun for kids (and some adults) as they try to "catch" or avoid each spray. There are no colorful sprayers or water features but that doesn't seem to detract from the fun.

Mud Island Riverwalk: The Riverwalk is an exact scale model of the Lower Mississippi River flowing from its confluence with the Ohio River at Cairo, Illinois 954 miles south to the Gulf of Meico

Bartlett Movies in the Park: This is a free family-oriented event. Bring your blankets, lawn chairs and enjoy a kid-friendly movie inside W. J. Freeman Park. See the full movie list & dates HERE!

Carriage Crossing Movie Mania: Friday May 2 – September 19 in Central Park. All movies begin at dusk. See the full movie list HERE!

Cineplanet 16 in Atoka 2014 Movie Series: Free movies every Tuesday & Wednesday from June 3rd - August 6th at 10:00 am. Click here for a list of movie titles.

Malco Theatres Kid's Summer Film Fest: June 3rd - July 30th Tuesdays & Wednesdays at 10am. Tickets are $2 each. See the movie list HERE!

The Orpheum Theatre-Memphis 2014 Summer Movie Series: May 30 to September 5. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children under 12. See the full list HERE!

Museums & Attractions:

Brooks Museum: Wacky Wednesdays provides a creative outlet during the summer for families, day camps, and child care centers with an open artworks studio, gallery guides, and children’s international short films every Wednesday in June and July.
-"Pay what you can Wednesday"

Dixon Gallery & Gardens: Tuesdays 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. : Pay-What-You-Can (As a service to the community the Dixon has instituted Pay-What-You-Can-Tuesdays.) & Saturdays 10 a.m. - noon: FREE

Memphis Zoo: Free admission on Tuesday from 2 p.m. to close. for Tennessee residents only. NOTE: There is a $3 Conservation Fee to enter the CHINA exhibit where the Giant Pandas are located.

National Civil Rights Museum: Free on Mondays from 3 p.m. until closing. (Not applicable for tour groups and operators. Not available on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day or Veterans’ Day.)

Pink Palace Museum, Historic Properties and Lichterman Nature Center: FREE 3 Month Summer Membership.

Playhouse on the Square: Pay what you can select performances. See the list HERE.

South Main Free Trolley Night: 6-9pm the last Friday of every month. A fun and family friendly community event!
