Diet Tip: Flavored Coffee

I am on a journey to get in shape as I approach my 40th birthday (June will be my 38th, so I'm working slowly on this LOL).  I think I've been on a diet since I 20yrs old, but I'm finally serious about it.  Along the way, I've collected a few great tips and concocted a few of my own.  I would like to share some of my favorite tips with you.  You'll likely have heard most of them already, but you may have forgotten them. 

Today's tip is one I came up with (although I'm sure lots of people have thought of the same thing), and it is all about my favorite drink: COFFEE!! 

I do not drink anything in my coffee except skim milk - no sugar or sweeteners.  That's because I don't like the aftertaste of sweeteners, and I used to drink A CUP OF SUGAR a day in my 'pot of coffee'!!  I finally realized I would have to reduce the amount of sugar I used until I could completely nix it all together, which I have done :) 

DIET TIP:

I love flavored coffee, and I usually buy flavored coffee grounds.  But if you do not have any on hand and want a delicious kick to your coffee try adding extract!  Yep, the kind you use in baking.  Today I added Maple (yum), tomorrow I'll either have Butter Rum, Brandy, or Black Walnut extract in my coffee! 

SAVINGS TIP:

Adding a few drops of extract to basic coffee can cost less than buying flavored coffee or creamers.  An additional savings comes in when you find extracts on clearance after the holidays!  Kroger had a TON of extracts on clearance for 25¢ each a few months back, so I grabbed one of every flavor!
