Kroger's New Coupon Policy Memphis Mommy's View

Links provided in this post may be from affiliate programs which earns My Memphis Mommy a small commission. Thanks for clicking!

PLEASE NOTE: Kroger stores are divided into 18 regions. Coupon policies vary by region and Weekly Sales Ad and sales cycles are different as well. TN is in 4 different regions so it depends on your city. The Delta Region ad begins on a Wednesday and ends on Tuesday night and includes these cities:

Memphis, TN
Little Rock, AR
Jackson, MS
Meridian, MS
Click here to see the regional divisions.

While you can find a Kroger Corporate policy here on accepting internet printed coupons here has been up-dated as well and coupons policies vary region and some stores have their own.
There is a new Kroger Coupon Policy in affect for the Delta Region. You cannot find it on-line but you can ask for it from your Customer Service Desk and I highly recommend you get a copy and keep it with you! It is dated August 2011 but it has just taken affect here in the Mid-South at the beginning of October 2011.  This policy is DRASTICALLY different than before and it is still not entirely clear how stores will "interpret it".

Click here to see the policy exactly as it appears from the copy (without my comments) I received from customer service, I have highlighted my comments.

First, WHY DID KROGER CHANGE THEIR POLICY TO BE SO EXTREMELY LIMITING ON INTERNET COUPONS?

Kroger stores here in the Mid-South have received a huge amount of copied coupons which they will not get reimbursed for. Click here to read an older post I did not Fraudlent coupons and how to avoid using your coupons illegally. Please do not let this discourage you, they still double and we can still save alot of money at Kroger.

  • We reserve the right to limit no more than five(5) paper paper manufacturer coupons for the same product, each coupon value considered (1) coupon in the same transaction.
This is straightforward you can only use 5 LIKE coupons, so 5 Ragu coupons on 5 different Ragu products in one transaction, you could then do another transaction. It was 8, I do not think 5 is that bad at all. I don't think I have ever used over 5 "like" coupons in one transaction.
  • Limit one manufacturer coupon (paper or digital) per item purchased
This is not new, they changed this policy back in March, here is a post I did on it then.
  • Expired Coupons are NOT to be accepted
  • Only Pharmacy Competitor Coupons Accepted
Not sure what this means and this is a new sentence in the policy.  I hope this means we could use a Walgreens product coupon? That would be a great policy change, I will see if I can find out.
  • Couponed Item will not be sold to dealers

Internet Coupon Restrictions /PAH Coupons (PAH: Print At Home)
  • "Free Item" Internet coupons can be accepted if all purchase criteria is met
  • Only one Internet Coupon per item will be accepted
  • Only Two Internet Coupons Per manufacturer per customer, per day.
This is the NEWEST part of the policy as before there was no different limit on print at home coupons only the 8 like coupon limit. This also to me is very vague and not clear. Please comment to this post and let me know what store location you shopped at and how they are applying this policy. I know some stores at reading this to be 2 "like" coupons, some 2 "company, meaning Proctor and Gamble product only" coupons and some the most extreme 2 only per day.
The only good news is that there is not longer a $ amount the old policy stated no coupon above $1.00 but this new policy does not limit that. And best of all will accept Free printable coupons which companies with advanced technologies are starting to offer more of these now will have your name printed on them.

Internet coupons that display characteristics below will not be accepted.
  • Blurry
  • Out of Proportion
  • Do Not Scan Properly
  • Appear to be Altered in any way

Doubling (if applicable)
Manufacturers' Coupons 60 cents and below will automatically be doubled

Woo-hoo this has not been changed, so we need to take full advantage of this awesome way to save BIG at Kroger!! Your coupons double automatically it says "bonus" underneath the amount. For example

Scanned Coupon $.50
Bonus Coupon $.50

Doubling does not apply to the following:
  • Free
  • Kroger
  • Catalina
  • Retail Food Store Coupons
  • Electronic Coupons
  • Items Prohibited by law
This also is not a change except I always saw that my Kroger coupons(the ones for Kroger products) doubled.

Note: The Store Manager has the right to accept, decline or limit the use of any coupon.

Why I will Still Shop At Kroger:
Fantastic customer service from the produce to meat department to the cashier to the service desk, I get amazing service at Kroger. They are friendly, they are helpful and knowledgeable and they make shopping in their store a positive experience.

The Kroger I shop at is the one on Macon and Houston Levee. They keep their items in stock and they  will help you find anything you need.

I feel I will still be able to save alot of money with their doubling and I am hoping my store will not limit their customers to only 2 internet coupons daily, I am going to try my best to make this work.

There are many advantages to shopping at Kroger here are a few to remember:

DOWNLOAD COUPONS TO YOUR KROGER CARD OR IPHONE
To take full advantage of Kroger’s deals you MUST have a Kroger Plus card.  Be sure and visit www.kroger.com and register to your card and put in your current address and sign-up for their newsletter here. Their monthly newsletter will be mailed to your home and has FABULOUS Exclusive Kroger coupons. I receive coupons for free products often. They are also e-mailing these.

Click here to download Kroger e-coupons to your card or phone. Please note these coupons are Manufacturer coupons and they cannot be stacked with paper coupons. They also will not double! You can only download coupons to one address (even if your spouse has a different numbered card, it is linked to your address) You can only download up to 150 coupons to your card, just visit Cellfire, Shortcuts, SoftCoin & Upromise.

Kroger has fabulous promotions like this one that will be starting soon, where you can download a high value coupon to your Kroger card.

Kroger Basic Things to Know
The only real Kroger store coupon are the coupons for Kroger Store brand items.
Even though you may receive a coupon with the Kroger logo on it, that does not make it a Kroger Store coupon, look at the top of coupon by the date and notice it will say Manufacturer coupon, therefore you cannot stack this coupon.

Unless it states otherwise if a product is 2 for $3.00 you do not have to buy 2
10
KrKroger often has Mega Events, during this special sale you MUST BUY 10 items (etc.) to save $5.00 at the end.   Unless stated you can use a buy one get one free (BOGO) coupon on an item that is on sale for BOGO and get both products free without buying any of that product.

Click here to find out more info on saving up to $1.00 a gallon on gas.

Scan Right Policy: IF an item scans up higher than the price marked on the shelf you can get that item for FREE (this does not apply to “clearance/saving’s aisle” products.

Manager's Specials/Clearance Section: Every Kroger store has a section where they have mark down items (these are not under the scan right policy). You can find some AMAZING DEALS on products and paired with a coupon, get them for free. The reason these items are marked down is due to shelf space, if they aren't selling, the clearance them out. Meats, dairy products etc that are nearing their expiration date can be found in each department.

I was at the new kroger on Kirby Whitten (recently changed from a schnucks). I found some good deals on toothpaste and tums. So i had my coupons in hand ready to checkout. The cashier scans my products an I hand over my coupons. She tells me I could only use 2 of my toothpaste manufactuer coupons and then the tums coupon wouldn't go at all. She said because it was on clearance the coupons would not go through. I was very disappointed :-/ But glad you have this new policy for everyone to read :)
Thanks MMM
