New Year's Resolution: Ways to Save in 2014!

Every year I set goals for the new year and usually after the first week forget them. This year I am going to try my hardest to stick to my goals especially my first goal to save money.

This year, I will be saving up for a summer vacation and Christmas. Here are a few of the tools I will be using to help save.

1. Rebate sites (Ebates, Shop at Home & Mr. Rebates). I used these this past Christmas and will be receiving a check in the mail in the next couple of months and will be putting into our savings account.

2. Rewards & Coupon apps (ibotta & Shopkicks). You can redeem your ibotta money to your PayPal account. Shopkicks you can redeem for gift cards. I had enough points this past Christmas to help pay for my daughter's portable dvd player.

3. 52 Week Savings Challenge. See more info below:

The 52 Week Savings Challenge

You may have seen the 52 week savings challenge before and some of you may have even partaken in it yourselves. The idea is to save a small nominal fee each week and at the end of the year you'll have $1,378 saved for bills, Christmas, High School Graduation, vacation...you get the idea.

*See below how you can start your savings with $50 FREE!!!

Above is the 52 week challenge, as originally posted, where you start with saving $1 per week and end with $52. I prefer the reverse plan (below - created by Kari with Northshore Mama) because you'll be making your largest deposits while you're the most motivated!

PLUS - you can deposit a portion of your tax return and mark off a few of the largest deposits - again while you're the most motivated.

Ok now - you need a place to deposit your money. Make sure this account is separate from your other funds so that you are not tempted to use it for anything but what you have designated it for.

*$50 Bonus!!!

Here's a suggestion that will also earn you a cool $50 bonus (that allows you to check off your week 50 or week 3 deposit if you're doing it in reverse)!!

Right now when you open up a Capital One 360 checking account AND make 3 card purchases or Person2Person Payments (or any combo of the two - no minimum), they will deposit $50 in your account!!

Steps

-Go HERE and click “Apply Now”
-Open a FREE 360 Checking account (NO minimum amount required to open an account!)
-Make 3 card purchases or Person2Person Payments (or any combo of the two) within 45 days
-Your $50 bonus will automatically be deposited into your account on day 50.
-If you decide that you don’t want this checking account, you can cancel at anytime.
