Review: HIT entertainment DVDs for Children

Now-a-days many parents have answered that long road trip question "Are we there yet" with portable DVD players!  If you child has already seen everything you own, you might consider one of the new DVDs recently released from HIT entertainment and Lionsgate, here are a few worth mentioning:

Bob the Builder: Adventures by the Sea
Barney: Planes, Trains, &  Cars
Thomas & Friends: Engine Friends Classic Collection (2-disc set)

I have always loved Barney because of the songs!  I must have learned a hundred different children's songs from that show, which made for very muscial car trips for the Curtis household!

Woo-hoo!!  Whole Foods is bringing back a favorite One Day Deal:  Fresh Shrimp!  This Friday you can get fresh shrimp for only $7.99/lb - that is a savings of $6 per pound!

Here is an easy marinade that I used on shrimp given to me by Whole Foods to grill DELICIOUS kabobs:

2 T. Lemon Juice
2 T. Rice Vinegar
2 T. Honey
2 T. Olive or Sesame Oil
1 Clove Minced Garlic
1/4. Beer (I used rasberry wheat beer from Shock Top)

Soak Shrimp for 1-3 hrs.  Drain before grilling.


I did receive free shrimp from Whole Foods, but all opinions are 100% mine!

Brooke's Beauty Corner: DIY Homemade Beauty Products - Oil Hair Mask

Hello MMM Readers!   This is a new trial column of My Memphis Mommy, called Brooke's Beauty Corner. I am My Memphis Mommy's (Dawn’s) daughter, and a 3^rd year cosmetology student at Cordova High.  I will be bringing you homemade beauty recipes, tips, tricks, facts, and debunking myths - EVERYTHING!  Be looking for my post's every Thursday (yes, starting tomorrow!).   My goal is to provide tips and recipes which contain household items and ingredients you should/will already have.  So without further ado… Drum roll, please…

TIP OF THE DAY

Today we will be talking about an oil hair mask. Did you know that your scalp produces oil which your hair needs to stay healthy and strong?  When you over-shampoo you can really damage your hair, because you are stripping it of its necessary nutrients.  Over-shampooing does not just cause frizzy or dry hair, but it can also cause hair to become greasy.  It’s important to treat your hair good oils, so I’m going to tell you about one way to do just that.  This is sure to freeze those fly-aways, replenish your roots, mend your ends, and it will feel great on your scalp.

Now lets get crackin'

Oil Hair Mask (not to be confused with a hot oil treatment)

You will need:

• 1 or 2 cups olive oil (depending on your hair length)
• 1 tsp of honey (for added shine)

Directions:

1. Heat olive oil in a microwave for about 30 or 40 seconds, or until it is lukewarm.
2. Mix honey in and allow it to dissolve.
3. Rub on your hair from roots to tips and allow it to soak.
4. If it feels gross, you’re doing it right.
5. After you have soaked your hair, continue into the shower and shampoo your hair until you get all the oil off.
6. Condition and style as normal.

Your hair will be smooth, shiny, and manageable for the rest of the day!

You can allow this treatment to stay in your hair for as long as you like, over-night would be great, but even just for half an hour before the shower is fine.  I like to give myself a spa day, and put this on my hair, heat up a towel and wrap my hair up. It really helps the oil to soak in and replenish your hair.

Kroger Match Up 6/20-6/26

Quick Facts about Kroger:
· To shop and save at Kroger you must have a Kroger Plus card. You can down-load coupons directly to your Kroger card: Kroger Digital Coupons,
· Kroger Digital Coupons can only be used once and they cannot be stacked with "paper coupons". Digital Coupons DO NOT DOUBLE, so I recommend not loading coupons under a $1.00 value.
· While you and a family member can get different Kroger cards with different numbers if it is linked to the same household address then the coupons on it will be the same.
· Please note there is a new Kroger Coupon Policy here. Kroger in Memphis and surrounding areas doubles paper coupons 7 days a week up to $.60 automatically all you need to do is use your Kroger Plus Card.
· There is a limit of 5 of the same coupon per transaction at most Kroger stores here in the Mid-South.
· Internet coupons (they call them Print at home) are limited at using only 2 coupons per Manufacturer per day per customer. Meaning you can only use 2 Proctor and Gamble coupons and then 2 Kelloggs coupons etc.
