Mud Island Events: 8/10 Sleep Out; 9/8 Read Out

Mud Island has some really fun events coming up, starting with this weekend!

8/10/12 - Sleep Out on the Mississippi:

Join us for Sleep Out on the Mississippi at the beautiful Mud Island River Park. Campers sleep underneath the stars next to Ole Man River. Just bring yourself to enjoy this unique camping experience. We provide a 12’x12’ tent, dinner, live entertainment, recreational activities, campfire with marshmallows, and breakfast. Just bring your sleeping bag. Cost is $40.00 per person. Advanced reservations required due to limited space.


9/8/12 - Read Out on the Mississippi:

What better place to enjoy a good book than at the banks of the Mississippi River? Kids and parents, head down to Mud Island for Read Out on the Mississippi. Imaginations will soar as we share our passion for reading. This will be an exciting afternoon of storytelling, entertainment, and family fun!

Read Out on the Mississippi is a free event designed to encourage reading in children ages 3 to 6. No registration required.

Guest readers will be the Mid South Buccaneers! Aar, matey!

9/28/12 - Pyrate's Ball:

The Mid-South Buccaneers present the Pyrate’s Ball Charity event at the beautiful River Terrace at Mud Island River Park. This event is the kick-off to the Mid-South Pyrate Fair.
Live music provided by Tom Mason. Group Dancing led by Tom Mason & LaVinnia London. Learn the fashionable group dances of the time period, including The Jolly Roger de Coverley (“The Virginia Reel). Tom and LaVinnia will teach each dance throughout the night so that everyone can join in the fun! Then the floor will be open while Tom and his band play us through the evening!
Performances by Samra and her Pyrate Roses and LaVinnia London. Samra and her Pyrate Roses: The sassiest knicker-kickin’ band of gypsies to hit the MidSouth! One part bellydance mixed with piratical sword play and a sprinkle of burlesque for fun gives you Samra and her Pyrate Roses! LaVinnia London: Wowing audiences wherever she goes with fire, snakes, and swords, LaVinnia shows that pirate women carry a touch of danger in their garter belts!
Awards for Best Dressed Lady and Finest Dressed Gentleman for both the general public and re-enactors.
*Pirate Re-enactors: Please don your most elegant period attire for the event!
*General Public: Time period or Hollywood-inspired pirate attire encouraged but not required for attendance! If not in pirate gear, please note this is a semi-formal event, so please dress accordingly, but be sure to wear comfortable shoes or boots for learning our dances!
The Mid-South Pyrate Faire is produced by the Mid-South Buccaneers, a not for profit group, that makes appearances throughout the year for charities and schools. The Buccaneers support COMEC (Commission on Missing and Exploited Children), St. Jude, and other children’s nonprofit groups.
