OOH-RAH! Today I (Dawn) am picking up my son from Marine boot camp! We are so excited to see him after these last few months with his absence! In honor of Jesse's homecoming I'm posting a recipe that my husband's family LOVES and makes often! They call it Dirty Dessert; it originally came from a sweet lady in the church my Father-in-love pastors up north. It is an Oreo and ice cream concoction and it is YUMMY!
I do not have a real pic of it, so I am posting a picture of what it sort of looks like :)
Dirty Dessert
1 pkg Oreo Cookies
2 C. powdered sugar
2 squares semi sweet chocolate
1/2 C. margaine
3 eggs; yolks and whites separated
1/4 t. salt
1 t. vanilla
1/2 C. crushed nuts
1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream (I like to use the one in the box so I can cut the box open and slice the ice cream up into equally thick slices
Crush a bag of Oreo cookies. Put 2/3 crumbs in 9x13 pan.
Cook over low heat: 2c powdered sugar, 2 squares semi sweet chocolate, 1/2 c margarine, 3 egg yolks, 1/4 t. salt, 1 t vanilla ...cook until bubbling
Beat egg whites stiff and fold into chocolate mixture. Pour over crumbs in the pan. sprinkle nuts on top of chocolate. Slice or spoon vanilla ice cream on top. Sprinkle with remaining 1/3 crumbs .
Cover well and freeze. When ready, cut and serve!
