Shana had the most wonderful opportunity to interview one of the producers of the film
The White Lion, Kevin Richardson. He started off by saying that he has a one year old child and training lions is much easier than keeping his little one out of things and trying to "train his kid" ;0) He shared that one of his hopes for this film is that through the story young people who feel different than everybody around them will relate to Gisani (the white lion) and have hope and dream to keep on their journey and never give up.
This film is amazing as it is not a documentary where one just films and captures the animals as they live, rather they had a distinct story they wanted told and they worked hard through motivating the lions with treats and love. As adults you will enjoy and marvel at what they are able to get the animals to do. We enjoyed being able to talk with our girls about what animals eat as they did a big "ewww" when they saw the lion first devour a carcass. We were able to make this a teachable moment that this is what lions eat and that I think the lion would say "eww" at their chicken nuggets as it doesn't look like meat anymore with all the things that have been added. There were not many graphic scenes and if you talk to your child before and during the film they should be fine.
It was great hearing Mr. Richardson speak to his passion of bio-diversity and conservation which helped motivate him for such an undertaking of producing a film like The White Lion. He wanted to show the world how difficult it is for a lion to survive the trials and tribulations of life. He said it best "Life as a lion is not easy, they don't just lie around and everyone stays away fro them because they are a lion".
Not many people can live the life that Mr. Richardson has being in such close relationship with lions but in this film he gives us such a great insight and glimpse of these magnificent animals, hearing their roars and seeing them run and play, stunning and breath-taking.
You have to watch some of the
footage of Mr. Richardson with the lions, IT IS AMAZING! I am fascinated and in awe as I watch him sleeping with the lion, swimming with a lioness, absolutely stunning!
I find it remarkable that Memphis is one of the 3 cities chosen to release this film, TODAY!
