Michaels Events for the Rest of October

Springfield Mommy was at Michaels on Saturday with her family and picked up a brochure advertising the in-store events in October and wanted to pass them on to you. Some of them are even FREE. All of the events this month, as you can well imagine, are Halloween themed.

October 16th from 1-3 pm they are having a Wilton Halloween Treats Demo.

October 22nd from 3 -8:45 pm join them for Michaels Crop Night scrap-tacular.

October 23rd from 10 am-2 pm the event is Halloween Boo-tiful T-Shirt Make-It Take-It. Your children ages 3 and up are invited to make an easy tee using Tulip fabric paints.

Also on October 23rd from 2-4 pm there is a FREE Halloween Glow Explosion Make-It Take-It event. Your children ages 3 and up are welcome to make creepy eyes using Crayola's Glow Explosion products.

On October 24th from 1-4 pm they are holding a Bead Event including Free Make-It Take-It projects. This is an adult event.

October 25th from 6-8 pm there is a FREE Halloween Glow Explosion Make-It Take-It event. Your children ages 3 and up are welcome to make creepy eyes using Crayola's Glow Explosion products.

On October 26th from 6-8 pm there is another FREE Halloween Quick & Easy Costumes Make-It Take-It event. You are invited to create a quick and easy costume to complete your Halloween look.

October 28th from 6-8 pm they are having a FREE Halloween Mask Make-It Take-It project.

On October 29th from 6-8 pm when you purchase a bag of your choice you can create a spooky trick or treat bag during their Halloween Treat Bag Make-It Take-It event.

Also on October 29th, they are holding another Bead Night that runs from 6-8:45 pm.

Finally, on Saturday, October 30th from 10am-2 pm they are holding a FREE Family Halloween Event. From 10 am-Noon they can make FREE Duck Tape Cuffs. From Noon-1:30 pm there is FREE Face Painting and the Costume Parade runs from 1:30-2:00 pm.

Recipe: Cheesecake

I got this recipe from the MR. Food web-site! You can even watch a video with tips on making this!

Ingredients

* 3/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
* 2 tablespoons butter, melted
* 1 (15-ounce) container part-skim ricotta cheese
* 1 cup plain low-fat yogurt
* 3/4 cup sugar
* 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
* 2 tablespoons lemon juice
* 1 (8-ounce) package reduced-fat cream cheese, softened
* 2 eggs
* 2 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 350°F.

2. In a small bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs and melted butter; press into bottom and up sides of a 9-inch deep-dish pie plate. Bake 3 to 5 minutes, until lightly browned; let cool. (Leave the oven on.)

3. In a large bowl, with an electric beater on medium speed, combine ricotta cheese, yogurt, sugar, flour, and lemon juice until smooth; set aside.

4. In another large bowl, with beater on medium speed, beat cream cheese, eggs, and vanilla until thoroughly combined. Add ricotta mixture, beating on low speed until well combined; pour into pie crust.

5. Bake 60 to 65 minutes, or until center is nearly set. Cool 30 to 45 minutes then refrigerate overnight before serving.

Garnishing Tip

Enjoy this plain or topped with fresh strawberry slices or whole blueberries or raspberries.

Terracycle sent me the 2 items my kindergartner is sporting, a lunch box and a pencil pouch both made out of Capri Sun pouches. She loves these, they are durable and super fun and of course very unique! Are you involved with fund-raising or PTA at your school or would you like to on your own turn in "trash" to get cash and know you are helping reduce waste and create some awesome stuff! Here are some of the great tips for re-using :

We use dryer sheets to dust with, newspaper to clean windows and cardboard boxes to put recycling in we covered them with newspaper and decorated them

I like to take potato chip bags and once I've finished them. Cut them up and make book covers out of them for college classes. I love the reaction I get from class mates. And the Why Didn't I think of that remarks!

We use plastic bottle lids for game pieces. We make gift bags and bows out of junk mail. I poke holes in the lid of milk jugs and fill them with water as watering cans.

We use old t-shirts to make bags for our groceries.

I use old newspapers from home in my classroom for various instructional reasons (reading centers, activities in all subject areas, to protect desks during art projects, etc.). After using them in my class, they are placed in the recycling bin.
I also use old socks and t-shirts as dry erase board erasers.

For any of you who drink coffee...the white plastic "milk jug type" coffee creamer....peel the label off the jug....use your craft scraps and decorate it like a snowman. Great craft for children and you are recycling.
