Feature: Professional Bull Rider Interview

Links provided in this post may be from affiliate programs which earns My Memphis Mommy a small commission. Thanks for clicking!

Shana had the privilege of interviewing the "soccer mom of professional bull riders" Lynn Mauney. Her son J.B. Mauney who is now 23 rode his first sheep at age 3. He soon progressed to calves and steers, and by the age of 14 he was competitively riding bulls. Of course one of the most frequent questions she gets is if she is "afraid for her son". I loved her response, she said she would be terrified if he wanted to jump out of a plane, but this is something he is very good at and knows how to do. Sure there are risks and he had an injury in June 2005, had broken all of the ribs on his right side, lacerated his liver, and bruised his kidney and spleen.” The injuries put Mauney on the sidelines for more than four months, forcing him to miss the 2005 PBR World Finals. But J.B. has found his gift and passion in life, I think all of us mom's want that for our kids. Sure we want them safe but we want them happy and he LOVES what he does and would do it even if he didn't get paid! Now can you imagine how much a GOOD professional bull rider can make in earnings?? Keep reading...

J.B. came back from the injuries stronger than ever in 2006, finishing as the PBR’s Daisy Rookie of the Year. At the start of the 2007 season, he rode the momentum straight into Manhattan where he took the coveted event title. In his career thus far, he has claimed event titles in Worcester, Mass., Billings, Mont., Grand Rapids, Mich., Jacksonville, Fla., Winston-Salem, N.C., San Antonio, Texas, Reno, Nev., and New York, N.Y., again in 2009. He also took the 2006 and 2009 Copenhagen Bull Riding Challenger Tour Season title. In just four short years of riding professionally, I was shocked to hear that he has surpassed the $2 million mark in career earnings in just 4 years after winning the 2009 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals event title and is always a top contender in the World Championship race. He loves what he does and his mom could not be more proud.

Want to see J.B. in action? The Memphis Invitational of Professional Bull Riders will be an exciting and fun family event at Fed Ex Forum. Mark the date now August 20th-August 21st for ticket information click here. If you enter this code PBRFAM4 you can save $15.25 per ticket.

Golf and Games Family Park $10 for $20 Game Card

Links provided in this post may be from affiliate programs which earns My Memphis Mommy a small commission. Thanks for clicking!

Here is a great deal for the whole family to have some fun together. You can get a $20 game card for $10 and enjoy some of the following attractions:

Lasertron Lasertag
Experience our 6,000 square foot, two-level Lasertron arena. Players can travel up and down ramps, hide behind pillars and arches for protection. The arena is blacklight lit and includes a great soundtrack.

Battle Zone
BattleZone is an interactive, high-speed competitive attraction of movement, reaction, and skill. Players in teams or individually take aim at targets which earn them points while also triggering any number of specialty tricks aimed at their opponents- from audio explosions to actual water cannons!

Sky Trail Ropes Course
The Sky Trail is nine elements of horizontally strung cables, ropes and boards that create obstacles or challenges. The obstacles and challenges are strung between support structures at a height of 12 feet.

Putt Putt Golf
We have 54 championship holes of Putt-Putt Golf. Our 3 courses are landscaped with beautiful flowers, plants, and trees. A water fall winds its way through all 3 courses with wooden bridges providing travel over the waterways. Each course has several jungle-like animals guarding the holes.

Maxflight Virtual Rollercoaster
The VR 2002 Roller Coaster Simulator, a futuristic Virtual Reality voyage through an awesome space asteroid, has succeeded in phenomenal fashion worldwide. Riders can program their own journey, selecting track pieces from over 38 billion different “mild to wild” track combinations. Passengers then strap into the coaster cockpit and the full motion 360 degree “forward-of-axis” action sends them soaring, spiraling, plunging and twisting in two different pulse-pounding directions.

Bumper Boats
The bumper boats spin and rock and bump around an island where a life-sized elephant stands. Riders should expect to get wet--which is just what the doctor ordered on a hot summer day!

Super Track
Drive head to head with other racers over the bridges and twist and turns of the a quarter mile track, powered by 8 HP Honda engines. You need to be 54" tall or have a valid driver’s license to drive, but we do have Double Karts where an adult can drive a child so everyone gets in on the excitement.

Batting Cages
The batting range has nine batting cages with computerized automatic pitching machines that allow batters to hit slow-pitch softballs, fast-pitch softballs, and baseballs at speeds from 40 mph to 70 mph. Individuals or teams wanting to improve their batting skills can rent cages by the round (12 pitches per round) or reserve them by the hour.. Use of batting helmets and bats is complimentary or bring your own equipment.

Driving Range
Hundreds of thousands of balls are hit monthly at our 120+ tee driving range. There are mat areas as well as grass tees. Golfers may hit starting at 8 a.m. daily and can go as late as 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights in the summer, with ample lighting after dark. Our Driving Range helps golfers with their whole game. Each range box features accurately marked distances to various flags to allow golfers to practice various clubs from one location. A spacious putting green and a chipping green area give you an opportunity to work on a part of your game that many driving ranges can't offer.

Golfers can take advantage of our Driving Range any time of the year, under any weather conditions with our heated, covered tees next to the main building. Now we have more covered tees than ever, with our recent double-deck expansion. Come work on your game today!

Funland
Come check out our Funland area, featuring our famous Buster Train, a Dino-Carousel ride, and a Red Baron Carousel Ride. They're bright and fun, and sure to entertain your little one.

Arcade
A year-round experience with over 100 games for everyone! Golf and Games Family Park offers a mix of games including classic video games, pinball, Skeeball, air hockey and games of skill for all ages!
